Case Study

University of Arizona - Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Tucson, AZ

Detailed Energy Survey and Modeling

Situation:

The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is involved with research and development in the field of veterinary sciences. Their facility, is primarily comprised of 12,900 square feet of office and laboratory space, and 1,950 square feet of Necropsy space. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory was in need of discovering cost-effective methods through which they could reduce their overall energy consumption and related operating costs. r.

Solution:

Lincus engineers started their study by examining the client’s past utility and natural gas expenses, performing on-sight inspections, and conducting a detailed energy modeling simulation. Once these items were thoroughly analyzed, Lincus recommended the following energy-savings measures:

  • Establish proper space temperature setbacks
  • Upgrade lighting 67 Watt T-8s with high efficiency ballasts
  • Upgrade the cooling tower and add chilled water reset
  • Install variable volume chilled water pumping and fume hoods
  • Install roof top PV System

Detailed calculations showed an annual energy cost savings of approximately $51,400, with a total installed cost of $320,632.
